Marking the opening of a new cultural space by SESC in the Flamengo neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, the exhibition Notícias do Brasil, curated by Marcelo Campos and Pollyana Quintella, reflects on what is and isn’t reported in the news through its visual identity. Featuring works by modernist artists Carybé, Cícero Dias, and Glauco Rodrigues, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on contemporary Brazil.
Emphasizing the colors and forms present in the artists’ engravings, the visual identity serves as a new channel for communicating the explored themes. It references unreported news and draws inspiration from traditional newspaper layouts. This concept is conveyed through compositions structured in a grid of blocks—alternating between black, colored, or halftone-treated images that evoke printed newspapers. Typography plays a significant role, highlighting headlines sourced from the curatorial texts.
